McConnell’s Folly, Ryan’s Blunder
With the announcement last night that 4 more senators including Mike Lee will not vote in support of moving the Senate ‘health care’ bill even to a DEBATE, let alone a vote, it’s death is accomplished.
BTW, being a voter in ME02, knowing ME did not accept MEDICAID expansion(having nearly gone broke from a previous expansion, AND then having to PAY THE BILL OURSELVES ..each and every one of us) and seeing the person who is to represent us in the Senate tell us she could not support the current bill SPECIFICALLY because of it’s effect ON this expansion hit the ONE NOTE a lot of voters here would vote to primary her on.
At any rate, McConnell has now seen his strategy of something for everyone in an Obamacare principled Senate Bill become #EPICFAIL. The House bill, another holding to the same principles, dies with it.
I can imagine the SQUIRMING, and talking points even now being composed for not now treading the same path already hiked with glee when an Obama veto could be depended upon.
- In 2015 the interest on the national debt was
~$450 billion - Defense
$598 billion - Federal Welfare Aid (SNAP etc, including Medicaid)
$398 billion - Medicare –
~$650 billion
Whatever we do simply cannot allow the nation controlling growth of the interest on the debt. Soon we will see our national interests first corralled and then chosen in order to keep our credit rating, or we will become some banana republic and devalue, or hyper-inflate (immediately making desperate paupers of everyone with a fixed income …i.e. 95-100% of everyone retired in the USA).
There is only one way to get a health care bill which does not end up in which we have nothing left for anyone.
We all must be able to buy health care insurance ANYWHERE WE WANT. ONLY the force of national competition stands a chance at lowering premiums.
CHANCE.
Each state must be able to then forge their own solution on top of that, but they cannot limit the choice of national insurance plans.
If a state wants to keep the Medicaid expansions let them be responsible to manage their own finances: increase taxes, cut other items, or encourage business to increase tax revenues.
There are no shortcuts, no magical answers. no federal largess which will not make our task regarding that interest on the debt more unmanageable.
If this fails to lower premiums and allow more satisfying CHOICE for the people, then it’s TIME to consider single payer, or MEDICARE for all with secondary insurance market akin to the many Advantage, and Supplement plans out there now. There are so many in order to satisfy the many individual and highly varied needs in the nation.
McConnell and Ryan have completely failed in their key task. They must go. #HOWITIS..
Failure to choose new and effective party leadership in the House and Senate is PARTY FAILURE (which, having been calling for the end of the R vs D party FARCE, is what I expect)
Personally I am prepared to vote against, AND WORK AGAINST ALL THOSE who failed to keep their promises made over years on this and other key subjects. The O’care repeal promises are too large to break.
That means the economy(Free Trade), Norkland, the Wall(National Security), Healthcare and Iran, as well, Mr. Trump.
Iran may withdraw from N-deal for “US violations”DEBKAfile July 18, 2017, 11:34 AM (IDT)Iran’s Foreign Minister Mohammed Javad Zarif told a National Interest interview Tuesday: “If it comes to a major [US] violation, or what in the terms of the nuclear deal is called significant nonperformance, then Iran has other options available, including withdrawing from the deal.”This was his rejoinder to the Trump administration’s statement in certifying that Iran was in compliance of the nuclear deal while “in default of its spirit.
