TOTTENHAM TALK

Tottenham have 16 non-home grown players in the official Premier League 25 man squad, we are allowed 18, which givs us two slots available for either January or next summer.

If we sold 28-year-old (29 next August) French international midfielder Moussa Sissoko or 23-year-old (24 next June) Dutch international striker Vincent Janssen, then we would free up further places. That is a far cry from where we were a few years ago when we were having o sell a non-home grown player before we could buy another and when they don't want to lower their wages to leave, it all became rather difficult and restrictive.

Back then I wrote we need to manage the situation better and we need to plan ahead better so we didn't put ourselves in that position again if we could help it. Under Mauricio Pochettino we seem to have addressed it and that allows us some flexibility in the transfer market and an advantage over other clubs perhaps, who are not in the position we are.

Ross Barkley coming in in January wouldn't make any difference as he is home grown so would increase that quota. I estimated his January transfer value to be £8 million (€8.68m - AUS$13.01m - US$10.34m), £10 million (€10.86m - AUS$16.26m - US$12.93m), given we made a £20 million (€21.72m - AUS$16.26m - US$12.93m) bid this last window.

That will represent excellent value and just the sort of deal we need with a new stadium to pay for.
