Le10sport report that Spurs are showing a keen interest in 23-year-old (24 in November) Stanislav Lobotka after his fine performances for Celta Vigo this season.

The Slovakian internationals ability to win the ball, pass it, keep it and stay calm under pressure has come to our attention. The defensive midfielder won two Slovakian titles and one Slovakian Cup before moving on to FC Nordsjaelland in Denmark in August 2015 and then his move to Spain in June of last year for £4.5 million (€5.12m).

In 41 games this season he picked up just 2 yellow cards, amazing for someone in such an important role. Initially starting in central midfield with a defensive midfielder alongside him, it wasn't long before he was asked to play the defensive role in a three-man field. He shone.

Technically he is an excellent footballer with good close control. At only 5’7″ tall he has a low centre of gravity which makes him a better-balanced player than many. Someone like Scott Parker had the same advantages. This he combines with strength and an ability to shield the ball


As the video shows, he is deceptively strong and has a turn of pace about him too. Lobotka completed 44 of his 48 attempted dribbles this season, a success rate of 91.7% – the joint second best in La Liga.

His combination and one-touch play would fit the quick passing style we are developing and help to keep us moving forward, perhaps help to make us less ponderous at the back. Eric Dier doesn't see a forward pass quick enough and neither does Victor Wanyama, Lobotka sometimes has the same issue so there is room for improvement.

He clearly has an ability to work with though and while not a household name in the UK, his game looks as though it would fit into the Premier \league.

Release clauses mean little, they are not transfer values, but all Spanish players have them. His is set at £44 million (€50m) so he could be a bargain buy.
